Growing up, being petite was difficult when it came time to shop for jeans. I’d hem my jeans myself so that the length would fit correctly or I’d fold them inwards. I didn’t know that petite clothing existed until I was in my early 20’s and I think my reaction was something along the line of oh-my-gosh-this-is-the-best-inventio-ever-why-didn’t-I-discover-it-sooner.
Over the years, some brands have begun to value their petite customers so it’s great to see a shift in increased petite-friendly clothing. For shorter gals, the struggle just isn’t about how a jean fits; it’s also important to consider jeans that give the illusion of longer legs. Regardless of what size you are or what jean style you like (flare, straight, skinny), high-waisted jeans – anything with a rise of 9″ or above – offers the best leg-lengthening illusion.
