I recently purchased the lovely interior book, Travel Home, by Julie Goebel and Caitlin Flemming – a dynamic mother and daughter duo. The book is a thoughtfully curated collection of people who have decorated their homes with wonders found during their travels. It’s an endless source of inspiration and I’ve found myself going through it again and again. I’m very smitten with this book and I highly recommend it.

The travel bug has crept on me and I’m more inspired now than ever to travel and bring back treasures that are reminiscent of my adventures. I’m turning 30 next year, so I’m delighted at the thought of vacationing somewhere overseas. Some places on my bucket list: Italy, France, Vietnam, Thailand, and Morocco.

But one can have a global-inspired aesthetic without the need to travel overseas. For home decor, there are many online shops that offer handmade artisan or vintage products from around the world. Some of my favorite shops include The Citizenry, The Little Market, and Chairish. For fashion (jewelry in particular), I recommend Soko.

One item that seems to be trending within the last few years are vintage Turkish rugs. Lately, I’ve been drawn to neutrals so a brown Turkish rug is exactly what my office and kitchen need for warmth and character. I’m also in the hunt for a vintage bread bowl to place on my bookshelves and a headless vintage bust to add a bit of whimsy in my home (although, I think my little ones would probably question its purpose).

When it comes to jewelry, I appreciate jewelry that incorporates both literature and history. Alighieri crafts their pieces after the Italian poet Dante Alighieri’s work and the medallion necklace is crafted after an antique Venetian coin. Soko offers a beautiful cuff bracelet crafted in Kenya. All of Soko’s pieces are sourced from local materials and are inspired by “architecture and traditional tribal designs”.

Whether you choose to source for pieces from your adventures overseas or shop for them in the comfort of your home, items that have a history or tells a story are certainly what every home and wardrobe needs.
